Updating your Aadhaar address is important to keep your information current and avoid any inconvenience.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it convenient for residents to update their addresses online through the myAadhaar portal. One of the options available is the Head of Family (HOF) based address update process.

Before we begin, it’s important to note that the HOF based address update process requires the consent of the Head of Family whose address you wish to share. The Head of Family could be your father, mother, or spouse.

For HOF-based Aadhaar address update through UIDAI/myAadhaar portal, follow the steps provided below:

Step 1: Visit the myAadhaar Portal and Log In

  • To initiate the process, visit the official myAadhaar portal (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in).
  • Click on the ‘Login‘ button, and you will be prompted to enter your Aadhaar number, along with a CAPTCHA code for security verification.

  • Once you have entered the required details, an OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP in the ‘Enter OTP’ area.
  • Then click on the Login button.

Step 2: Navigate to the Address Update Section

  • After logging in, you will be directed to the myAadhaar dashboard.
  • From the dashboard, select the ‘Update Aadhaar‘ option.

  • On the Online Aadhaar Update page, click on the option ‘Head of Family (HOF) based Address Update.’

  • An instruction page will open, here, click on Next button.

Step 3: Enter Head of Family Details

  • Scroll down to the ‘Head of Family (HOF) Details‘ section.
  • Here, you will be required to enter the Aadhaar number of your Head of Family. The system will validate the Aadhaar number to ensure its authenticity.
  • Next, you need to select your relationship with the Head of Family (e.g., son, daughter, wife) from the dropdown menu.

Step 4: Upload Proof of Relationship Document

  • To validate your relationship with the Head of Family, you need to upload a supporting document as proof.
  • Accepted documents include ration cards, marksheets, marriage certificates, passports, or any other document that mentions the names of both you and the Head of Family, along with your relationship.

Step 5: Review and Upload Documents

  • After entering the Head of Family details and selecting the proof of relationship document, click “OK” and then ‘View Details and Upload Document.’

  • Review the information you have provided, and if everything is correct, click ‘Continue to upload‘ the document.’

  • Upload the scanned proof of relationship document, and then click ‘Next.’

Step 6: Make Payment

  • Once the document is uploaded successfully, you will be prompted to make a payment for the address update request.
  • Select your preferred payment option (net banking, debit/credit card, UPI, etc.), click ‘Make Payment,’ and complete the payment process online.

Step 7: Download Acknowledgment Slip

  • After the payment is processed successfully, you can download the acknowledgment slip.
  • A Service Request Number (SRN) will be provided to you, which you need to share with your Head of Family.

Step 8: Head of Family Approval

  • An SMS notification will be sent to the Head of Family informing them about your address update request.
  • The Head of Family needs to log in to the myAadhaar portal within 30 days of receiving the notification and give their consent to approve or reject the request.

To approve the request, the Head of Family should follow these steps:

  • Visit the myAadhaar portal and log in using your Aadhaar number, CAPTCHA code, and OTP.
  • On the dashboard, scroll down and select the option ‘My Head of Family Requests.

  • Enter the SRN number provided to you, along with your name and the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
  • Here, head of Family can choose to Accept or Decline the request

If Declined:

  • If the Head of Family does not take any action (accept or decline) within 30 days of the SRN creation, the request will be automatically closed, and the request gets canceled.

If Accepted:

  • If your Head of Family accepts and confirms to share their address
  • The process is completed successfully
  • You can download the self-declaration form again
  • Your updated Aadhaar with new address will be mailed to you within 90 days

Step 9: Confirmation and Completion

  • Once the Head of Family approves the request and confirms sharing their address, the process is completed successfully.
