Why is it Important to Keep Your Aadhaar Updated?

Your Aadhaar card, with its unique 12-digit identification number, is an important document in India. It serves as a secure gateway to access various government services and conduct financial transactions. Keeping your Aadhaar details up-to-date is essential for several reasons:

  • Prevents Duplication: Outdated information on your Aadhaar card can lead to duplication issues, which could potentially cause confusion and delays when availing services.
  • Detects Fraudulent Activities: An accurately updated Aadhaar helps authorities detect and prevent fraudulent activities, ensuring the security of your identity and transactions.
  • Seamless Access to Services: With your Aadhaar reflecting your current details, you can access essential services and benefits without any hiccups.

Under the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, you are required to update your POI and POA documents every 10 years from the date of your Aadhaar enrollment. This requirement also applies to updating a child’s biometric details on their Blue Aadhaar card at ages 5 and 15.
